Cabbage Soup Diet

The smell of cabbage makes me want to vomit, so this diet would force me to either regurgitate all my meals or just refuse to eat all together:  my apologies for starting you off so negatively.

Why I stated that is because today's diet review is called the Cabbage Soup Diet.  This diet is a 7-day diet that consists of meal plans for each day of the week in which most include the magical cabbage soup.  This diet is actually a healthy one, but may be discouraging.  Let's face it.  Humans love to see results and this diet takes the full week to show the weight-loss.

Here's the recipe so you can start cooking your piss-smelling meals...again, I'm sorry:
6 large green onions
2 green peppers
1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
3 Carrots
1 Container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
1 bunch of celery
half a head of cabbage
1 package Lipton soup mix
1 or 2 cubes of bouillon (optional)
1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, curry, garlic powder, etc.

Directions:
  • Slice green onions, put in a pot and start to saute with cooking spray.
  • Cut green pepper stem end off and cut in half, take the seeds and membrane out. Cut the green-pepper into bite size pieces and add to pot.
  • Take the outer leafs layers off the cabbage, cut into bite size pieces, add to pot.
  • Clean carrots, cut into bite size pieces, and add to pot.
  • Slice mushrooms into thick slices, add to pot.
  • If you would like a spicy soup, add a small amount of curry or cayenne pepper now.
  • You can use beef or chicken bouillon cubes for seasonings. These have all the salt and flavors you will need.
  • Use about 12 cups of water (or 8 cups and the V8 juice), cover and put heat on low. Let soup cook for a long time - two hours works well. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
For those of you who read this recipe and thought, "This sounds so delicious. I can't wait to try it, but where do I start?"  Here is the meal plan that you can follow in order to satisfy those odd taste buds of yours.

Those of you who thought about maybe trying it but are still a little skeptical,  I invite you to look at this page to see the testimonials of people who have tried the diet and have had success! Here their stories!

The Raw Food Diet

The Raw Food Diet is exactly what you think; everything you eat is uncooked and unprocessed.  It was created on the basis of the belief that foods that are heated above 116 degrees Fahrenheit burn off the enzymes that are helpful for food absorption.

I'm sorry, but with my Cuban roots, everything is prepared, cooked, seasoned, and hot and ready on a plate to eat.  I can't imagine eating any other way.  Sounds more like a rabbit diet to me, but here's what the researchers are saying.

The benefits include weight loss, increased energy, improved skin, better digestion, and reduced risk of heart disease.

Ok, ok I know it's probably a very healthy diet, just not very appealing to my taste buds.

In my defense, some will get a detoxification reflex from trying this diet if their diet was normal before.  They can experience nausea, headaches, and cravings.  The nutritional deficiencies of this diet are iron, calcium, B12, protein, and calories.  These things are suggested to be taken in vitamin form so that your body is getting the essential nutrition it needs.

Chef Alissa Cohen is a firm believer and has dedicated this whole website to the Raw Food Diet.  Here she has recipes, before and after pictures of her followers, blogs, and more! Check it out

This video gives dieters an idea for healthy snacks available to buy when you're on the diet.

Color Diet

Christina Aguilera made this colorful diet come to life!  The point of her diet is to be conscious of what she's eating and be creative in her food choices.  Healthy foods are stressed!

Here's the calendar:
Monday= White
Tuesday= Red
Wednesday= Green
Thursday= Orange
Friday= Purple
Saturday= Yellow
Sunday= rainbow foods are allowed

This diet is challenging if you really think about it, but it makes you really think deep into what food you are going to eat and plan out your meals for the day.  This diet sure is a lot of fun for the pop princess, but others have a problem keeping the diet under control and making bad decisions to eat red velvet cake instead of an apple because their reasoning is... IT'S TUESDAY AND IT'S RED...PERFECT!!!!

If you haven't noticed, sadly our friend, the color blue, is not included in this color spectrum.  I can only imagine it is because there are barely any healthy foods that are blue or because, with research, I found that the color blue is a hunger suppressant!

The American Institute for Cancer Research supports eating all different colors of food in your diet.

Tell me how the rainbow tastes,

The hCG Diet

The hCG Diet is one that I have never heard about until now!  If beauty isn't already painful enough, some faddys say that this shot is the key to weight loss.

HCG stands for Human Choriogonadotropin, which is a hormone produced by pregnant women.  Some think injecting this into your body will cause you to lose weight along with following a low calorie meal plan of 500 calories a day.  With my fear of needles, all five hundred of those calories would be sweat out of my body before I would even get my daily shot.

It is said that patients will lose 1 to 2 pounds a day.  No doubt those are excellent results, but that dosen't sound too healthy.  The facts prove me wrong again by saying that the weight loss comes directly from adipose fat rather than lean muscles.

And here's the kicker... there's a lack of FDA recommendation, which is why your doctor has not suggested this!  It is legal in the United States, but it is recommended that you don't buy hCG from any other countries because it is not safe.  This is not an Ebay purchase, be careful with who is your distributor.

Who knows, maybe this could be the revolution to weightloss!  But like any other diet, when you stop recieving the shot, your body will not stay the same, requiring you to adopt a healthy life style.

This diet is in my opinion a short time thing, a segway into another diet.

The Face Analysis Diet

This diet is basically an analysis of your face, skin, and hair which determines what foods that you should be eating and what foods you should be avoiding.  According to Elizabeth Gibaud, there are 6 arhcetypes in which everyone can fall under.  Personally, I have no idea which archetype I am from looking at this chart, but maybe that just means this diet is not for me! But don't let that discourage you, this diet may be perfect for you.  The basis of this diet builds off the statement that your face is the key indicator of what's going on in your body.

Which type are you?
Type 1: This one is ruled by your thyroid gland. If you have a shiny nose, fluffy hair, cold feet and hands, bulging eyes, and dry skin.
Avoid: Mangoes, white flour, red wine, yeast products, and chocolate
Eat: Cucumbers, oats, apples, potatoes, and asparagus

Type 2: This one is ruled with your liver. If you have a yellow tint to your skin (particularly around your mouth), reddish or bluish nose, and/or a thick and furry tongue, and red ears. If you are suffering from lack of concentration and motivation, as well as experience nausea.
Avoid: Oranges, curry, bananas, alcohol, and coffee
Eat: Cherries, limes, apricots, potatoes and garlic
Type 3: If your are suffering from water retention and have a bloated face, puffy under-eyes, vertical line or groove under the tip of your nose, swollen fingers or ankles, and a hard time concentrating.
Avoid: Soy sauce, peanuts, canned fruit, red meat, and cheese
Eat: Spinach, broccoli, onions, fresh fish, and pineapples
Type 4: If you have inflammation easily, a greasy chin, nose, and forehead, very tight or open pores, horizontal lines on your forehead, sagging cheeks, and smelly feet.
Avoid: Rice, pastries, alcohol, mayonnaise, and shellfish
Eat: Millet, turnips, carrots, asparagus, and berries
Type 5: Prone to having complaints about your skin.
Avoid: Watermelon, raisins, strawberries, eggs, and beer
Eat: Oats, cabbage, apples, butter, and parsley

Type 6: This is only applied to men and is ruled with their prostate. If your ear is red at the top or forehead is red and has horizontal creases above your top lip, dark rings under your eyes, and a furred tongue
Avoid: Sweet potatoes, vinegar, aubergine, red wine, and blue cheese
Eat: Grapefruit, peaches, lentils, courgette, and watercress

So, basically, analyze your features and see what foods should and should not be in your diet.  Beautify yourself and your body... if you can categorize yourself into one of the types.  If not, keep diet searching!!!

Baby Food Diet

If you hate the texture of food and love the thought of all your food pureed into one bowl of yuck, the Baby Food Diet could be for you!  Instead of eating 3 whole meals and a couple snacks a day, you replace them with small jars of inexpensive baby food.

Baby food is full of vitamins and minerals.  The portion sizes are small enough where they will satisfy your hunger, but you won't overeat.  There are also kinds of baby food that organic and most are gluten-free for those of you who want that in your diet plan.

On the other hand, the small portions may lead to binging later or may not satisfy you.  The texture may get boring.

The baby food is no doubt very healthy because its purpose is to feed babies.  That is why it is full of fruits, veggies, vitamins, etc., with no extra fats, fillers, or other unhealthy chemicals.

Also, if you want to try to spice up your meals a little bit, look at these baby food recipes.

5 Factor Diet

The 5 Factor Diet was made, once again for our favorite celebrities.  We look to our Hollywood Stars to see what keeps them skinny and beautiful.  As much as we see many gimmicky diets and different ways to have an eating disorder, some of our stars follow healthy meal plans.  This diet is one of those.  If you want to look like the stars, but eat food, this is the probably the closest thing I can give you!

This diet was all started by a man named Harley Pasternak.  He was faced with a challenge to create a diet that not only was healthy and practical, but it had to be able to fit into the schedule of a Hollywood star and all the ingreiance had to fit into a mini fridge.  He also had to put together an excercise plan that would fit into the breaks during their day.  Now the diet can be accessed by everyone, also accompanied by excercise videos, customized meal plans online, and motivational books.

This is what he came up with!

  • It is designed to give you results in 5 weeks.
  • You are to eat 5 meals througout the day.
  • Each recipe contains no more than 5 ingredients and should take around 5 minutes to prepare.
  • The workouts are 25 minutes long.
  • You will get 5 cheat days out of those 5 weeks.
These key concepts are what makes this diet easy, efficient, and effective!

If you want a sample of a meal plan for the five weeks check it out!

Here's what Mode Athletics personal trainer Mike Roulston thinks about this diet.

US Ski Team Diet

So the US Ski Team Diet sounds just like what it is.  It's the diet that the US Ski Team followed in order to drop a ton of weight.  It became very popular in the 70's and everyone and their mother took a stab at it and usually came out successful if they went about it correctly.  The motivation was that the skiiers used it to drop 20 lbs in 14 days, sounds unhealthy, but if Olympic athletes are doing it, why can't we? The diet is simple, very restrictive, and say a big farewell to our friend carbs.  The organization of the diet is to eat all that you want within limits, becuase the foods listed as acceptable will make you feel full.

Check it out!

REPEAT FOR THE SECOND WEEK!

This diet stresses that you are only supposed to follow this plan for 2 weeks, not longer because it will be unhealthy for your body.  It also says that abstaining from eating is very harmful your health as well.  The diet prohibits the consumption of alcohol, eating between meals, and using butter or fatty dressings to spice up your foods.

I think this diet is feasible.  Yes, it is very strict, but it is healthy in the sense that you are eating a balanced diet.  You are not starved because you can eat as much of the food listed as you want and the foods used in the meal plan are very filling foods to tide you over to the next meal.  The things that the diet prohibits such as carbs, fatty dressings and butter, and alcoholic drinks are things that we should always be watching in our routine diets.  The other reason that this is possible is because it is only for two weeks.  When people try to go on diets for months or years, they tend to binge when they are prohibited from many foods or aren't eating enough to satisfy their bodies.  I would actually consider trying this one myself.

Here's an article from Sports Illustrated (in 1985) about the ways World Cup skiiers follow a diet plan and what the reasons are.

The Caveman Diet

Way back when dinosaurs were roaming the earth, the habitants were clearly not equipped with the technology we have today.  They ate whatever they could get their hands on.  This is the basis of the Caveman Diet.

The RULE-  It's simple. You are only allowed to eat things that can be picked, foraged, or hunted in their most natural state.  This means meat, fruits, vegetables, nuts, eggs, and berries.

This means you are not allowed to eat grains, beans, potatoes, dairy products, sugar, or salt.
There's no catch either!  You can eat as much as you want on this diet, so you definitely won't starve like you will on the majority of the other diets out there.

Ray Audette was the man who invented this stone aged meal plan 15 years ago after he was diagnose with diabetes and suffered from arthritis.  Soon after he changed his way of eating completely and his health took a turn for the better!

"After I stopped eating them [foods prohibited on diet like milk, beans, potatoes, grains and sugar], my blood sugar went normal within a week,"  Audette claims.  "I'd also been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for about a dozen years before that.  It went away and never came back."

CBS talks to Audette and researchers to dig deeper into the diet.

This diet is macro and micronutrient healthy for the body and for its functions. Some argue that it is not as healthy as it sounds, but you can listen to the arguments and decide for yourself.

On this diet, Audette as able to lose 25 pounds.  How many will you lose?

Dinner for Breakfast Diet

Did you ever treat yourself with a platter of delicious pancakes, dripping with syrup, with a side of bacon and milk for dinner? Well, flip it around and you've got an effective diet! Experimenting dieters have tried eating the "Dinner for Breakfast Diet" or the "Reverse Diet" and come out with great success.

The Rule: Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper.

The Theory: Tricia Cunningham, the founder of the diet, uses the theory that if you eat the meal with your bulk of your calories in the beginning of your day you will lose weight. Why? Science shows that you burn the majority of your calories during the day and barely any of your calories at night when you sleep.  Therefore, by eating a bigger meal in the beginning of the day, you can burn those calories during your daily routine, and finish with a small dinner.

My opinion is that this sounds like an awesome idea.  It makes complete sense if you really think about it.  The only thing that throws me off is when I think dinner for breakfast, I think a chicken breast with grilled vegetables and pasta.  Not quite something my stomach will be prepared for at 6:30 in the morning!! EW! Thankfully, people who have tried the diet have come up with some satisfying recipes to make your breakfast not so...dinnery!

If you are considering this diet, get started today!  Here's a suggested shopping list to get diet rolling and the calories burning!

The Lemonade Diet

When life throws you lemons, make lemonade.  When life throws you love handles and saddlebags...make lemonade?

Did you ever think when you were selling Dixie Cups of lemonade for 25 cents on the side of the road that you were creating a famous diet?  Probably not.  The Lemonade Diet is great...if you don't like food.  On this diet you can only drink your lemonade all day, a morning salt-water flushing solution, and a cup of herbal laxative tea at night.

Oh, and this lemonade is NOTHING like the kind of lemonade you had at your little stand.  Here's the lemonade recipe... yuck, take a look!

2 oz. of fresh squeezed lemon juice. No bottled lemon juice for you lazy one's out there.

2 oz. of maple syrup
1/4 of a teaspoon (or more) of cayenne pepper
2 Cups of Water.

Make sure to flush out all your insides with this solution every morning when you wake up!

2 teaspoons of salt and 1 quart of water.

Then at night, end everything with a cub of Herbal Laxative Tea.

If i were to be on this 10-day diet plan, I would be beyond starving.  Nothing on this diet is hunger suppressing.  Also, the thought of putting maple syrup and cayenne pepper in my lemonade would make me vomit, but maybe that's the point?  An extra 5 pounds would probably be dropped after throwing up all your water weight.  The Lemonade Diet to me just sounds like a week and a half long vacation in your bathroom.  If you have a long morning commute or any other commitment that prohibits you from having an all-day pass to the restroom, I do not recommend it.  Bloating, diarrhea, and constant bladder pressure sound extremely uncomfortable and not worth it!  This dieter talks about their horrorifying experience, she wasn't as happy with her results as Beyonce was.

Please let me know how this one treats you! BEST of luck,

MIA

The Cookie Diet

What do Angelica from the Rugrats, Santa Claus, and grandmothers around the world have in common? They all love COOKIES!!!  Don't we all?  Cookies and other sweet treats are the downfall for people trying to lose weight, but what is all this buzz about a cookie diet?  From hearing that there was a possibly effective diet out there that involved cookies made me jump onto the computer and start nerdin' away through the research.  And guess what?  The diet is REAL!

Dr. Sandford Siegal invented this too-good-to-be-real diet.  Now, if you were waiting for the catch, here it is.  Doc Siegal invented a hunger-supressing cookie.  Now I've never tried the cookies, but like most dieting food that's advertised to be delicious, experimenting dieters are often disappointed with cardboard/bitter/chemical/etc. taste.  I can only imagine Siegal's treats are as apeitizing.  Unfortunately, I will probably never get to tell you readers what i think after trying the coookies because Doctor S only makes them available for his patients in his clinics.

Looking into what the meal plan consists of for the Cookie Diet let down my  Your eating habits are just a little better than the Olsen Twins.  This diet consists of only one meal a day. I repeat, ONE MEAL A DAY!  Now, now, says Sandford, you also get to eat 6 hunger-supressing cookies a day.  Wow, how full-filling, six cookies and one meal a day! How satsifying...NOT!

For someone who has food readily available to them, it would be very difficult for me to sit in the school cafeteria while everyone is chowing down on hamburgers and pizza while I sit there nibbling on my 6 cookies.  On the contrary, during the summer, I am on the go non-stop.  This would actually be a practical thing for me to try and I am sure all you on-the-go people out there would agree.  This is why celebrities like Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Jessica Simpson, and Denise Richards can handle this diet.  It's convenient to just grab a bag of the Dr.'s cookies on their way out the door.

Here's another success story that ET investigated.  This woman goes from a size 24 to a size 2 in 8 months.  So it IS possible.  I wonder if she had her wallet on her when she was weighed and measured?  Why, because while your shaving inches off your wasteline, you're also ripping cash out of your bank account.  For just one week supply of cookies, the price is around an eye-opening $60!!!!!!

The Grapefruit Diet

Aaah the Grapefruit Diet.  Its start was in the 1930s, but in the 1970's, the magical fruit took dieters by storm, and then was made popular again in the 80's, making its imprint as one of the most famous fad diets ever.  Hollywood stars used it because it is one of those "shed off some pounds before having to squeeze that big butt into a size 0 red dress for the Oscars in week" diets.  There are several versions of this diet but here is a basic one with a meal plan and instructions:

Breakfast: >1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened)
                >2 eggs (any style)
                >2 slices of bacon

Lunch: >1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened)
           >Meat (any style, any amount)
           >Salad (any kind of dressing)

Dinner: >1/2 Grapefruit or 4 oz. Grapefruit Juice (unsweetened)
            >Meat (any style, any amount) fish can substitute meat
            >Vegetables (any green, yellow, or red vegetables cooked in butter or ay seasoning)

Bed Time Snack: > 1 glass tomato juice or 1 glass Skim milk

Vegetables Allowed: Red onions, green onions, bell peppers, radishes, cucumbers, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, peas (AVOID- white onions, potatoes, celery)

Instructions:
  1. At any meal, you may eat until you are full.
  2. Don't eliminate anything from the diet, don't skip bacon at breakfast or omit salad.  It is the combination of foods that burns fat.
  3. The grapefruit starts as a catalyst that begins the fat-burning process
  4. Cut down on caffeine.  Try to limit 1 cup per meal at mealtime
  5. Don't eat between meals.
  6. No deserts!
After reading the diet and its positive aspects, I would be attracted to follow this diet because you are eating a lot and eating until you are FULL!  Besides the fact that I can't get past the bitter taste of a grapefruit, the meal plan seems easy and not too much of a fast.  I am astonished that they allow you to eat bacon. Come on! That's like the biggest  NO NO in the dieting rules!  If the Grapefruit Diet allows my favorite salty, juicy, and greasy "meat" to be included in my everyday meal plan, I am totally up for it!!!  Another thing is something I hear advised from my mother every day, "Watch your salad dressing Mia! You know you can't put Ranch on everything!"  Believe me, I have found way in which to use Ranch that no person could ever imagine! Love that, but isn't it filled with fat?  YES, but the followers say that the fat works in with the fat-burning process.  (I wish I could tell you that they we're telling the truth, but I honestly have no idea).  Based on the evidence I have found, everywhere it says that the balance of the fats and other components work together to make this diet successful.  Bad news.  I know that this meal plan starts to sound like the DREAM DIET, but don't worry, they omit deserts (aw man!).  As much as I would like to believe in this diet, the lack of restrictions on amount and fat content makes me think that this plan isn't practical, but that's for you to try and decide!

For additional thought on this diet, we look to WebMD
Even "Weird Al" Yankovic has his own opinion on this magical fruit! : )

The 7 Day Diet

The 7 Day Diet is a diet where each day of the week emphasizes on one food group. You can eat as much as you want (YES!) but you can only eat one type of food (ugh). Take a look for yourself:

Monday:
You can eat all the fruit and fruit juices you want--EXCEPT bananas (what?!).

Tuesday:
You can eat all the vegetables you want! Oh and vegetable soup. The only thing you can put on your vegetables is vinegar, mustard, or soy.

Wednesday:
This day is a just a combination of Monday and Tuesday. So, once again, only fruit and vegetables, but STAY AWAY FROM THE BANANAS!!! For some reason they're still off limits.

Thursday;
Yes, I can finally eat my bananas! Today you can eat 5 bananas and 5 whole glasses of milk. Some versions of this diet say 8 bananas and 4 glasses of milk, but either way, get your mouth prepared for a extremely bland day.

Friday:
You can eat 4 steaks of meat (3 ounces each of either chicken, beef, or fish) with an unlimited amount of green vegetables.

Saturday:
Same as Friday: You can eat 4 steaks of meat (3 ounces each of either chicken, beef, or fish) with an unlimited amount of green vegetables.

Sunday:
Same as Friday and Saturday: You can eat 4 steaks of meat (3 ounces each of either chicken, beef, or fish) with an unlimited amount of green vegetables.

So that's the 7 Day Diet for you! Pretty unbalanced week of eating in my opinion. First of all, the differences in calorie amount is completely unbalanced. On Monday, your body will be filled with sugar calories and your insulin level will be soaring. To match this level of insulin, your body is going to want to eat TONS of vegetables the next day. Too bad, because I don't think the mighty vegetables you'll be eating all of Tuesday will be able to live up to the challenge and meet that level of insulin, turning all the excess sugar calories in to fat. I'm not a professional nutritionist, but this first day doesn't seem very healthy. On the other hand, day two is very healthy. Although you are not consuming protein on these days (which is vital to a healthy diet) you are eating a large amount of vegetables which is so good for your body. The whole NO BANANAS rule seemed a little weird to me, considering that it's calorie amount is the same as an apple. Now that I look at the week's schedule though, I can only assume that they do this so you are not sick of bananas before Day 4! Speaking of Day 4, this to me sounds like the most boring day EVER for your taste buds. Milk and bananas are bulk food which will make you feel very full on the positive end. This day sounds like it's purpose is to fill your body with lots of calcium and potassium. Days 5,6, and 7 sounded perfect for me. I love, love, love meat and green vegetables. It would be weird eating chicken, beef, or fish for breakfast, but I guess I could get past that. I saw a pattern of following the food pyramid in this diet, but then I realized they conveniently left out the grain category. This is probably because the average American eats WAY to much bread and pasta! As a whole, I thought this diet was an interesting thing to try, but maybe not practical for every week in your life.

The Diet Channel talks about the potential amount of weight loss you could reach by following this diet. It also talks about the negative aspects of this diet and why you should not follow it.
There are ways to follow this diet and be healthy with it. Here's a list of 33 of the healthiest foods to eat and they are all FRUITS AND VEGETABLES!!!

If you try this diet and have results, good or bad, LET ME KNOW!
